Rayville Junior High School’s Library Club went on a field trip to Poverty Point Heritage site in Pioneer on Nov. 7.
The purpose of the field trip was to research artifacts archaeologists found as they relate to the Native Americans who once lived on Poverty Point Plantation.
“The students are reading about Native American Indians and how they lived in different parts of the country. In our library club literature circle, we have just read The Story of Pocahontas and learned about how life was for the Indians and how they survived,” reading and library teacher Torrie Britton said. “Students also enjoyed climbing up the huge Indian mounds, riding on the trolley and researching the artifacts while touring the poverty point site.”
Students attending the trip were Micheal Kelly, Jasmine Gee, DeAntonyo Richardson, Gloria Williams, Ari Hill, Mackenzie Ball, Mackezie Murray, Thurston Seaberry, Javin Gee, Louisiana Green, Jeremy Robinson, Zyterious Griffin, Znyiah Keys, Rowdy Richardson, Chalen Ricks, Ke’Marion Whittney, Kayden Whittney, Au’Brianna Wilson, De’Jon Richardson, Ahmiya Jackson, Willie Davis Jr., Kadrielle White, Amariah Holmes, Quenterria Bias, Aaliyah Miles, Demarion Fletcher, Audreionna Martinez, Shi-Layhia Washington, Amorianna Watkins, Krishalynn Brown, Jasear Cook, Ayanna Nask and Halie Parker.
