Mangham announces top eighth graders of year

It is with great pleasure that Mangham Junior High announces the top eighth-grade students: Layna Antley, Reed Aulds, Phillip Blanchard, Amelia Brunson, Loralei Fisher, Joshua Graham, Addison Nichols and David Michael Wiggers.

These students were chosen to participate in the school level selection process for the Mangham Junior High Student of the Year. Each of the students created a portfolio and was interviewed by a committee. The students did an excellent job of creating their portfolios and handled themselves with poise and class while participating in the interview process.

David Michael Wiggers has been chosen as MJH Student of the Year.

David is the son of Drew and Sunny Wiggers and is a member of Thrive Church. David has received many school awards for School Wide Positive Behavior, All A’s, Top IXLer in both Math and ELA, Taylor Scholars Award, and received a perfect score on the Math LEAP test in 6th grade. He is extremely active in and out of school. He is a member of the Mangham Junior High Chapter of the National Junior Beta Club where he is currently serving as Chaplain, he is a member of the 4-H Club where he is currently holding the title of President, he is a member of Fellowship of Christian Students, a current member of the Yearbook Staff, Newsletter Staff and Future Farmers of America.

In addition he is on the MJH Basketball Team and the MJH Track and Field Team. In 4-H, he participates in the Cookery competitions as well as the 4-H Shooting Sports competitions in both rifle and shotgun and was recognized as the 4-H’er of the Year last school year for his outstanding participation and leadership.

Outside of school, David enjoys playing baseball for the Winnsboro Dixie Youth Baseball League and enjoys running in 5k races. He recently participated in a Spartan Race where he placed 1st overall and 1st in his age group. He also volunteered in the Ainsley Angels 5k where he helped an Ainsley Angel participate in the race.

Layna Antley is the daughter of Taylor Antley and is a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Layna has received many school awards for School Wide Positive Behavior, Honor Roll, Accelerated Reading, and the Taylor Scholars Award. She was also recognized by the Richland Parish Library of Mangham for being the Top Reader. Layna is a member of the Mangham Junior High Chapter of the National Junior Beta Club, the 4-H Club, Future Farmers of America, and the Book Club where she served as President for the 2024-2025 school year. Layna plays the cymbals for the Mangham High School Drumline and is a member of the MHS Choir.

Layna has competed in multiple MJH and MHS Talent Shows and last year won fan favorite. Layna is a gifted writer. She placed in the top 10 of the Appley Publishing National Writing Competition. Her poem was then selected to be published in the Appley Rising Suns Collection.

Reed Aulds is the son of Jared and Rachel Aulds. He has received many school awards for School Wide Positive Behavior, Honor Roll, Citizenship, and Taylor Scholars Award. Reed is a member of the Mangham Junior High Chapter of the National Junior Beta Club where he is currently serving as President. He is also a member of the 4-H Club, Fellowship of Christian Students, the Yearbook Staff, the Newsletter Staff, and Future Farmers of America. He represents Richland Parish as a member of the 4-H Shooting Sports Team where he competes in the Rifle competitions. Reed is also a member of both the MJH Basketball and Football Teams. Outside of school he is a member of the LA Phoenix Baseball team.

Phillip Blanchard is the son of Andrew and Callee Blanchard and is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He has received many school awards for School Wide Positive Behavior, Citizenship, All A’s, Top IXL Growth in Math, and Taylor Scholars Award. Phillip is extremely active in and out of school. He is a member of the Mangham Junior High Chapter of the National Junior Beta Club, the 4-H Club, Fellowship of Christian Students, the Yearbook Staff, Future Farmers of America, and last year was a member of the Newsletter Staff. Phillip is a member of the MJH Track and Field team and was the manager of the Basketball team last school year. He is also a member of the Mangham High School Drumline. He also participates in 4-H Cookery competitions. Outside of school Phillip plays soccer for North Louisiana United.

Amelia Brunson is the daughter of John Brunson and Courtney Brunson and is a member of Mangham Methodist Church. She has received many school awards for School Wide Positive Behavior, Honor roll, top IXLer, and the Taylor Scholars Award. She also won 1st place in the Fiction category of the Young Authors Contest. Amelia is a member of the Mangham Junior High Chapter of the National Junior Beta Club, the 4-H Club, the Yearbook Staff, the Newsletter Staff, Future Farmers of America, the Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Students, and the Book Club. She is a Mangham Junior High Cheerleader and a member of the Track and Field Team.

Loralei Fisher is the daughter of Hollie Washam and is a member of Mangham Baptist Church. She has received many school awards for School Wide Positive Behavior, All A’s, top IXLer, and the Taylor Scholars Award. Loralei is a member of the Mangham Junior High Chapter of the National Junior Beta Club, the Newsletter Staff, Future Farmers of America, and the Book Club. She is also a student of the Richland Parish Gifted Arts program. Loralei is a Mangham Junior High Cheerleader.

Joshua Graham is the son of Jerry and Erica Graham, and is a member of Mangham Baptist Church. Josh has received many school awards for School Wide Positive Behavior, All A’s, Top IXLer, Taylor Scholars Award, and Citizenship. He is a member of the Mangham Junior High Chapter of the National Junior Beta Club, the 4-H Club, Future Farmers of America, and Fellowship of Christian Students. Josh is a member of the MJH Football team, where he served as a team captain this past football season and is a member of the Track and Field Team. Outside of school Josh plays baseball for the Mangham Baseball team and the Richland Parish Dixie Baseball team.

Addison Nichols is the daughter of Clay and Alaina Nichols and is a member of Apostolic Faith Chapel. She is extremely active in her church as a member of the Drama Team, Junior Worship Team, and Hospitality Team.

At school, Addison is a member of Fellowship of Christian Students and has won awards for School Wide Positive Behavior, Honor Roll, Citizenship, top IXLer in ELA, the Taylor Scholars Award, and Accelerated Reading placing first overall in the school for the last two years.

She also won 1st place in the school level Young Authors Contest and for the past two years she has been a finalist in the MJH Spelling Bee and placed in the top 5 of the Richland Parish Spelling Bee. Addison is a member of the Mangham Junior High Chapter of the National Junior Beta Club and the 4-H Club.

Mangham Junior High’s top eighth graders of the year are Phillip Blanchard, Loralei Fisher, Amelia Brunson, David Michael Wiggers, Reed Aulds, Joshua Graham, Addison Nichols and Layna Antley.
