Two Delhi police officers resigned last week after being accused of working as security for the Delhi Hospital while still clocked in at the Delhi Police Department.
“Citizens were complaining, telling us officers were working two different places at the same time,” Delhi Alderman Larry Rancher said.
It was thought one officer had worked more than 300 hours for the hospital while he was supposed to be patrolling for the police department. The other was suspected of having worked 160 hours.
Rancher said the information had been given to the town’s attorney to be handed over to the district attorney’s office.
Fifth Judicial District Attorney Penny Douciere said she was aware of the allegations and was awaiting the results of an investigation.
Officers for the Louisiana State Police said they were aware of the situation.
“The situation is in its earliest stages, and details are limited,” an LSP spokesman said. “We are monitoring developments and will provide additional information when it becomes appropriate to do so.”
Delhi Police Chief Roy Williams confirmed the officers had resigned and the matter was under investigation.
Already shortstaffed, the Delhi Police Department is now seeking to fill five positions.
“We want good police officers who will do what they are supposed to do,” Rancher said. “Anyone interested should apply. We absolutely want to support our police department and protect our citizens.”
