Richland schools seek students with disabilities

The Richland Parish School System is continuing its efforts to locate and evaluate children with disabilities through the Child Find program.

Child Find is a federally mandated initiative under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. It requires states to identify, locate, and assess all children from birth through age 21 who may be in need of early intervention or special education services.

Local officials are especially interested in identifying children between the ages of 3 and 21 who may have difficulties in one or more of the following areas: • Speech or language

• Vision or hearing

• Physical or orthopedic impairments

• Emotional development

• Social development

• Learning development

• Intellectual development Children showing signs of developmental delays, learning or behavioral issues, or medical problems that interfere with their education may qualify for services.

Anyone who knows of a child in Richland Parish who may have a disability and is not currently receiving special education services is encouraged to contact Angie Snuggs, Supervisor of Special Education, at 318-728-5964, ext. 235.
