A section of U.S. Highway 425 will be renamed as the Sheriff Gary Lynn Gilley Memorial Highway.
House Bill 180 to designated the highway is sponsored by Rep. Francis Thompson and Sen. Katrina Jackson.
“This bill honors the late Sheriff Gilley, a highly respected leader in our community, and recognizes his many contributions to public safety in Richland Parish,” Richland Parish Sheriff Neal Harwell said.
The dedicated stretch of highway will run between the northern junction of LA Hwy 132 and the southern junction of LA Hwy 584 in Archibald.
A dedication ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 16 with the group to gather at the Affinity Health Group parking lot, located at 262 Hwy. 132, Mangham.
“We invite the public, community leaders, and all who knew and loved Sheriff Gilley to join us in this special moment of remembrance and honor,” Harwell said.
