The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Hussein Mohamed Abobaker on Sept. 23 for three counts of distribution of Schedule I, three counts of violation of the uniform CDS law (Drug Free Zone) and possession with intent to distribute Schedule I.
This arrest came after an investigation into the selling of kratom out of the Delhi Express convenience store located at 317 Main St. Delhi.
Kratom is a herbal substance that has a stimulant and opioid-like effect. Kratom stimulant effects include alertness, rapid heart rate and increased energy. Kratom can also cause effects such as relaxation, confusion, and pain relief similar to opioids and sedatives effect. How kratom affects each person depends on how much is taken, its strength or concentration, how it is taken (capsules, powder, tea) and the person’s medical conditions and drug-taking history.
A search warrant was also conducted at the store where a large amount of Kratom was seized.
Abobaker was booked into the Richland Parish Detention Center with a bond of $55,000.
