Crew Lake honors grandparents

Crew Lake Methodist Church honored grandparents on September 7.

Dianne Williams gave a reading saying they are the blessings of God. Life is happier and easier with their presence. They spoil you, enlighten you with the test lessons of life and keep you in their heart. Grandparents deserve our love, affection and attention in life.

Grandparents Day is celebrated to honor the love and efforts of grandparents.

The next reading was “I’m So Old That,” which was in honor of Emma Jo Sullivan who is 89 years old. She was the oldest grandparent there and the oldest living member of Crew Lake Methodist Church.

Some of the things which applied as “I’m So Old That” were: 1. I have dialed a rotary phone that didn’t have an answering machine.

2. I watched a black and white TV with less than 10 channels.

3. I have taken a long walk without counting the steps.

4: I have eaten food I didn’t take a picture of.

This was a complete surprise for Emma Jo. First, all her family who could come to church. Dianne called Audrea, and she spread the word. Those present were son, Richie Sullivan; daughter, Audrea Sullivan Owens; grandson, Col. Sullivan, and wife, Brylie; Audrea’s husband, Steven Owens; and grandson, Will Owens; and his girlfriend, Ashlee Douglas.

The next surprise was the reading “I’m So Old That” which was so enjoyable. After all the celebration, Pastor Marshall Sevier then preached the sermon. Next was communion. Then the congregation was dismissed with prayer.

There was a pink, beautiful bouquet of flowers on a table in the pulpit. They were for Emma Jo to take home.

The family carried her out for lunch after church. It was such a wonderful day for Emma Jo and all present at church enjoyed it, too.
