Diane McPherson will be missed in parish schools

To the Editor:

This is a letter concerning this teacher who just retired this year after 50 years.

She put her whole heart and soul and her entire being into teaching our children and grandchildren. I have seen her in a wheelchair in a foot boot and still never quit, never took off.

Her kids have always been top on her list. They come first. I know first hand because she taught my grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they were always were in a hurry to be old enough to go to “Ms. Diane’s” room. Her room was full of thing she needed to teach and keep their attention. She even had a skeleton -- a full skeleton.

One of my grandchildren even rode his bike from Epps to Holly Ridge so he could be in her room after we had moved to Epps. It was a dark day for all of us when he could not stay (and no, I did not know he was going to do this).

Diane, you will be sorely missed at school. You gave of yourself. You were never too busy to talk to a child or a parent. She used her own money so many times to buy supplies for her “kids.”

She never had an eight hour day. She was there early to late. She had no time clock and she was at ball games cheering and helping.

I first knew her well when she was at Holly Ridge, then she came to Epps. Their loss was our gain.

Diane McPherson never think you are not missed and loved. You are more like a sister to me than a friend in and out of school. You touched a lot of lives and I am so thankful my kids were part of that. You left your mark on so very many.

Thank you for your unselfi sh life as a teacher. I know you have seen a lot of changes in your teaching years, some good, some not so good, but you never wavered, never let it get you down.

May God bless you.
