Rayville gains $4 million grant

The City of Rayville will receive nearly $4 million in federal funding to reconstruct the runway at John H. Hooks Jr. Memorial Airport, U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-La.) announced this week.

The $3,935,917 grant comes from the Federal Aviation Administration through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Airport Improvement Program. The money will be used to rebuild 3,998 feet of runway 18/36, a project designed to strengthen the runway’s structure and reduce foreign object debris.

Cassidy said the airport improvements will boost safety and accessibility.

“The airport is the first thing people see when visiting Louisiana,” Cassidy said. “With this funding, we are making our state more accessible to families, businesses, and visitors.”

The project is part of a larger $46.6 million package awarded to airports across Louisiana for upgrades ranging from runway extensions to hangar construction.
