Parish jobless rate up slightly

Richland Parish’s unemployment rate rose to 6.0 percent in June 2025, up from 5.5 percent in May, according to the latest figures released by the the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The parish reported 7,558 residents employed and 482 unemployed in June, compared to 7,485 employed and 433 unemployed in May. The June rate also showed a slight improvement from June 2024, when the parish recorded a 6.1 percent unemployment rate with 7,613 employed and 491 unemployed.

Louisiana’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment has added jobs over the year for 51 consecutive months.

The state’s seasonally adjusted total nonfarm employment for June 2025 is 2,001,700 jobs, an increase of 900 jobs from the May 2025 figure of 2,000,800 jobs. The series has seen over-the-month employment gains in 25 of the last 32 months. Compared to June 2024, seasonally adjusted total nonfarm employment increased by 22,900 jobs. The series has seen over-the-year employment gains for 51 consecutive months.

Louisiana’s seasonally adjusted total private sector employment for June 2025 is 1,677,300 jobs, an increase of 500 jobs from the revised May 2025 figure of 1,676,800 jobs. The series has seen over-themonth employment gains in 31 of the last 39 months. Compared to June 2024, seasonally adjusted total private sector employment increased by 20,000 jobs.

The series has seen overthe- year employment gains for 51 consecutive months.

“This 51-month streak of job growth is a reflection of the hard work of Louisiana’s employees and the strategic efforts we’ve made to create meaningful, lasting opportunities across the state,” said Secretary Schowen. “Our goal at the Louisiana Workforce Commission is simple but powerful — to help every Louisianian move from dependence to independence by building strong pathways to employment and long-term success.”

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June 2025 is 4.5 percent. The rate is unchanged from the revised May 2025 rate of 4.5 percent, but increased by 0.3 percentage points from the June 2024 rate of 4.2 percent.

The number of seasonally adjusted employed individuals for June 2025 is 1,981,615. The number of seasonally adjusted employed increased by 2,825 individuals from the revised May 2025 figure of 1,978,790. Compared to June 2024, the number of seasonally adjusted employed individuals decreased by 9,338.

The number of seasonally adjusted unemployed individuals for June 2025 is 92,694.

The number of seasonally adjusted unemployed increased by 321 individuals from the revised May 2025 figure of 92,373.

Compared to June 2024, the number of seasonally adjusted unemployed individuals increased by 5,292.
