Traffic accidents claim two area lives

Two people have died in unrelated accidents during the first week of July.

The first death occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on July 1 near Pioneer.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a singlevehicle fatal crash on Plum Grove Road, just north of Bayou Macon Cemetery Road. The crash claimed the life of 75-year-old Carl Carr of Epps.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Carr was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado south on Plum Grove Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

Carr, who was unrestrained, received serious injuries. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.

Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

The second death occurred shortly after 3 a.m.

on July 6.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Highway 80, just east of Delhi. The crash claimed the life of 59-year-old Michael Fairley of Grambling.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Fairley, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 80. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

Fairley, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the Chevrolet were both properly restrained and uninjured. Although impairment is not a suspected factor in this crash, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Follow all traffic laws and ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
