Excitement is building across Rayville as the community prepares for its second annual Juneteenth Parade on June 19.
Sponsored by Alderwoman Consuela M. Hunter in collaboration with the Town of Rayville Juneteenth Community Committee and the Rayville Rosenwald/Eula D. Britton Alumni Association, the event promises a morning filled with unity, reflection, and celebration.
The parade will kick off at 10 a.m., beginning and ending at the Rayville High School parking lot. Parade participants are encouraged to arrive early, with lineup starting at 9 a.m. and judging for the most decorated float or vehicle taking place at 9:45 a.m.
This year’s theme, “Because of them, we can!” pays homage to the trailblazers whose courage and sacrifice paved the way for future generations. Leading the parade as Grand Marshal will be Assistant Chief Mary Ann Bishop Tellis who served as the first Black female assistant chief of the Monroe Police Department.
Participation in the parade is free of charge, and the organizers encourage local groups, families, and businesses to take part in the celebration.
