Farm demonstration trails strengthen crops

Farm demonstration trails strengthen crops
The AgCenter staff is preparing demonstration trials in Richland Parish to monitor potassium levels in soybeans.

The LSU AgCenter has worked closely with producers to strategically place farm demonstration trials in Richland Parish.

The trials consist of corn and soybean demonstrations to monitor yields in the coming harvest season. A potassium trial has also been placed in Richland Parish.

This is to monitor potassium levels in soybeans, even if the beans are not showing deficiencies which have been named Hidden Hunger.

The crops in Richland Parish consist mostly of corn, which is a trend statewide with current market situations.

Cotton acreage is significantly down as well as total soybean acreage.

“Crops in the parish are looking strong this year despite receiving considerable amounts of rainfall,” Assistant Extension Agent Nate Jennings said. “Some concerns from having large amounts of rainfall surround the potential for disease in crops.”
