Mangham PD seizes drugs
Mangham PD Officer Brent Purvis displays contraband seized in a traffic stop.

A traffic stop for dark window tinting led to a drug arrest Feb. 27 in Mangham.

Mangham Police Offi cer Brent Purvis pulled over a blue four-door car for having window tenting which appear illegal.

After making contact with driver, Jada Nyrie Carter, officer Purvis said hesmelled the odor of marijuana.

The car’s passenger Orlando D. Washington, surrendered a small amount of marijuana to Purvis who returned to his unit to investigate both occupants.

After officer Purvis returned to his unit, he said Washington grabbed a black backpack and ran on foot into a wooded area. Officer Purvis pursued the suspect on foot approximately 150 yards into the tree line and used an energy weapon device to subdue the suspect.

Washington was charged with numerous crimes after the backpack was discovered to contain approximately three pounds of suspected marijuana and $2,849 in cash.

Carter fled the scene and has not been located yet. A juvenile located in the vehicle as well.

Mangham Police Chief Perry Fleming and Assistant Chief Dakota McKinney would like to congratulate Purvis on the arrest.

“We will continue to protect and serve the citizens of Mangham,” Fleming said. “Thank you all for the support and the trust you have all given the department.”
