Port officials welcome Meta project impact

The Madison Parish Port Commission is welcoming Meta’s planned data center project in northeast Louisiana, calling it a transformational investment expected to bring long-term economic growth to the region.

The proposed $10 billion data center campus in Richland Parish is expected to create thousands of construction jobs and hundreds of permanent positions. At peak construction, the project could employ more than 5,000 workers and support approximately 500 direct operational jobs, along with additional indirect employment across the region.

“We are excited to welcome Meta to Northeast Louisiana,” said Donald Frazier, chairman of the Madison Parish Port Commission. “This investment signals that rural communities like ours can play a major role in the future of American technology and innovation.”

Port officials said the project also includes investments in local schools, nonprofit organizations and workforce training programs aimed at preparing residents for careers in the digital economy.

“For our community, this project represents more than a construction site,” Frazier said. “It represents good-paying jobs, new opportunities for our young people, and the chance for families to build their future right here at home.”

As development moves forward, the port is working to ensure infrastructure is in place to support the project and future growth. Plans include improving transportation access, strengthening multimodal connections and preparing the port to serve industrial partners tied to the development.

“These improvements are not just about serving one project,” said Kimmeka Sterling, executive director of the Madison Parish Port. “They are about building infrastructure that will support economic development for generations to come.”

Sterling said longterm planning, including upgrades to transportation, utilities and industrial sites, will help ensure the region can fully benefit from large-scale investments like Meta’s.

“Our goal is to ensure Northeast Louisiana remains competitive for future industry,” Sterling said. “By investing in infrastructure today, we are laying the foundation for decades of growth.”

Port officials said they look forward to working with Meta, state leaders and regional partners to support the project and maximize its long-term benefits for communities across northeast Louisiana.
