The Rayville High School boys track and field team delivered a well-rounded and competitive showing at the District 2 meet, finishing third overall with a total of 90 points.
The Hornets showcased depth across sprints, distance races, relays and field events, highlighted by a first-place finish and multiple podium performances.
Leading the way was Tacoda “Woo” Johnson, who captured the district title in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 1 inch, earning 10 points for Rayville. Johnson also added a third-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 41 feet, 8 inches, contributing six more points to the team’s total.
On the track, Braylon “Book” Booker continued to shine as one of the Hornets’ top performers. Booker placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.88 seconds and added another third-place finish in the long jump, recording a distance of 21 feet even.
In middle-distance action, Sir Jamar Edwards secured third place in the 800meter run with a time of 2:15.16, while Jadarrius Natt followed with a fourth-place finish at 2:16.80.
The Hornets also saw success in the 200-meter dash, where Braeden Travis sprinted to a third-place finish in 23.33 seconds.
Rayville’s relay teams were key contributors to the team’s overall success. The 4x100-meter relay team — featuring Jadarrius Natt, Braylon Booker, Kingston Reynolds and Braeden Travis — earned a third-place finish with a time of 45.36 seconds. In the 4x400-meter relay, Sir Jamar Edwards, Jadarrius Natt, Braeden Travis and Braylon Booker combined for another third-place finish, clocking 3:46.28.
The 4x800-meter relay team delivered one of the meet’s standout performances, finishing second with a time of 9:09.06 and setting a new personal record. Team members JaTavion Collins, Sir Jamar Edwards, Jadarrius Natt and Tacoda Johnson earned eight points for their effort.
Additional contributions came from the 4x200-meter relay team, which placed fourth. Tacoda Johnson also competed in the hurdles, placing fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.88) and third in the 300-meter hurdles (45.16), adding valuable points.
Distance runner Mahlik Lockhart secured a fourth-place finish in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:35.83 and later placed third in the 3200-meter run at 13:43.91. JaTavion Collins also contributed in the 1600-meter run, finishing sixth (5:44.16), while Mason Bryant added a point with a sixth-place finish in the 3200-meter run (15:44.82).
With strong performances across multiple events and athletes stepping up in key moments, the Rayville Hornets demonstrated their competitiveness and teamwork. As the postseason approaches, the team looked to build on this momentum on April 27 at the Class 2-2A Regionals which were held at ULM.
