Drop Everything and Read Day was on April 12, which fell on a Sunday.
We celebrated it the next day on Monday. Every library club member took the time to read some type of literature and encouraged others throughout the school to read something as well to honor Drop Everything and Read Day. Also, D.E.A.R. Day is a wonderful way to promote literacy and a love for reading. A part of our library club pledge is to let reading take us to amazing worlds.
We also celebrated 'National Library Week' on April 20-24 with several activities focused on 'Spring into reading with a purpose.'
On Monday, the library club members read poetry by famous poets that they enjoyed. On Tuesday, they read their favorite book to a friend.
On Wednesday, during our library meeting, we discussed library articles, encouraged others to read, and had refreshments. All library members wore their T-shirts to support 'National Library Week.'
Also, on Thursday, all members researched and found an article online relating to news according to their interests and shared it with other members.
On Friday, members shared the information they learned in the library club blog on what each member learned that week from reading and researching.
'The students had an amazing time reading, researching, and sharing the importance of reading with others around the campus while celebrating National Library Week. We also look forward to celebrating next year,' reading and library teacher Torrie Britton said.
