From Classroom to Capitol: Mangham artists take stage

Three Mangham artists earned recognition for their outstanding work representing Richland Parish in the Louisiana School Board Association’s annual Louisiana art contest.

The contest challenges students from across the state to create original artwork representing Louisiana using a variety of media. Local students rose to the occasion, producing creative and visually striking pieces.

Caroline Butler, a sixth-grade talented art student at Mangham Junior High, was selected for the junior high division. Her acrylic painting depicts a New Orleans street after a Mardi Gras parade, complete with beads hanging from trees. She is the daughter of Jeremy and Elizabeth Butler.

Caroline’s work went on to earn top honors, placing first in the state in the junior high division. Her winning entry was showcased at the 2026 LSBA convention in Baton Rouge, where it was viewed by more than 600 school board members and superintendents. The piece will remain on display at the LSBA office in Baton Rouge through spring 2027.

In addition to her state recognition, Caroline also had a detailed pencil sketch titled Simply Bee selected for display at the “Sketching the Wild” exhibition at the Sci-Port Discovery Center. That exhibit runs from April 11 through May 22.

Mason Williams, a fifth-grade talented art student at Mangham Elementary, was selected for the elementary division. He used colored pencils to create a lifelike image of a tiger inside an outline of Louisiana. He is the son of Ebony Williams and Teramium Edmonds.

Paige White, an 11th-grade talented art student at Mangham High School, was selected for the high school division. Her oil painting features a vibrant depiction of a bottle of Tabasco sauce. She is the daughter of Jeff and Kelli White.

All three students are instructed in art by Jamie Barton. Their achievements reflect both their individual talent and the strength of the art program in Richland Parish Schools.
