Spring has sprung and is such a busy time of the year.
Honestly though, I think every season is busy anymore! Preparing family meals can sometimes seem an impossible task with everything going on. That’s where prepping freezer meals for your slow cooker can really come in handy. If you love using a slow cooker to prepare meals while you are at work or activities, you are really going to love having freezer meals prepped for the slow cooker!
Preparing your own freezer meals for the slow cooker just takes a little prep time ahead but will make it so easy to put a meal in the slow cooker before you head out the door. The ingredients for your slow cooker recipe can be measured out into freezer bags or containers, so everything is ready to go right into the slow cooker.
I prefer using freezer bags since they can be stored flat and stacked in the freezer.
Make sure to label your freezer bags or containers before filling them with the name of the dish, the date, and instructions for cooking in the slow cooker. For example, “Pulled Pork Sandwiches, April 13, 2026, Cook on high 4 to 5 hours or low 8 to 9 hours.” Once you have labeled your bag, add the ingredients for the recipe. If possible lay bags flat and store in the freezer.
Freezer meals for the slow cooker should be thawed in the refrigerator the night before cooking.
When you are ready the next morning, put the contents of the bag into your slow cooker and add any ingredients that you couldn’t add to the bags ahead of time.
If you have a recipe like this where you had to leave some ingredients out before freezing, make sure you add this to your bag label so you will remember to add it when you put the ingredients in the slow cooker.
Use your freezer meals within three months for best quality. If you want to prepare several recipes for the freezer at one time, you can set up an assembly line. You can even purchase gallon bag holders that make filling the bags easier with less mess.
Slow cooker freezer meals can help you keep family mealtime as part of your routine.
Give it a try and you won’t have to stress over what’s for dinner as long as you remember to put a bag in the refrigerator the night before.
Happy cooking!
