Lady Gators power through dominant week

Delhi Charter turned in a commanding week on the diamond, combining explosive offense and strong pitching performances to secure a pair of decisive wins over Madison Parish and Rayville.

The Lady Gators opened the stretch with a 27-0 rout of Madison Parish on April 7, a game shortened by the mercy rule after Delhi Charter erupted for 15 runs in the first inning and added 12 more in the second.

Delhi Charter finished with 21 hits and showed discipline throughout the lineup, drawing nine walks while striking out just once.

Marliee Bonner led the charge at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Shakayla Montgomery added a 3-for-4 performance with three RBIs and a run scored, while Jasey Calhoun went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Ali Henson contributed a 1-for-2 effort with two RBIs and two runs, and Destiny Griffin added a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored. K’Miya Fletcher drove in a teamhigh six runs, finishing 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Olivia Clark scored twice and drove in two runs, while Kaylee Osborn and Taylor Mitchell each added two hits and multiple runs scored.

Dani Mize also crossed the plate once as Delhi Charter continued to pile on offensively.

The Lady Gators showed power and extrabase ability as well, with Calhoun, Henson, Fletcher, Bonner, Clark and Mitchell all recording doubles. Bonner, Montgomery, Osborn and Clark each added triples in the rout.

In the circle, Henson and Mitchell combined for a no-hit performance. Henson worked two innings, striking out four, while Mitchell closed it out with one inning of relief, striking out two. Delhi Charter committed no errors defensively.

Delhi Charter carried that momentum into April 9, defeating Rayville 15-2 behind another balanced offensive effort.

The Lady Gators collected nine hits and drew seven walks, continuing to apply steady pressure on the basepaths.

Bonner led the offense again, going 1-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Olivia Clark delivered a big performance, finishing 1-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored, while Calhoun added a 2-for-4 effort with three RBIs and two runs.

Fletcher contributed a 1-for-4 game with two RBIs, and Griffin added a hit and scored three times.

Osborn also chipped in with a hit and a run, while Montgomery scored twice and reached base multiple times.

Delhi Charter continued to show extra-base power, with Clark, Calhoun and Bonner each recording doubles. Griffin added a triple, and Fletcher delivered a home run.

The Lady Gators remained aggressive on the bases as well, with Calhoun, Fletcher, Clark and Griffin each recording stolen bases.

In the circle, Henson pitched all five innings, allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out nine. Delhi Charter committed one error defensively.

Through the two games, the Lady Gators showcased one of their strongest stretches of the season, combining timely hitting, aggressive baserunning and consistent pitching to control both matchups from start to finish.
