Hornets erupt for 18 runs in win against Madison

Rayville turned in a dominant offensive performance, erupting for 18 runs in an 18-1 win over Madison on April 7 in a game shortened by the mercy rule.

The Hornets wasted no time setting the tone, scoring 11 runs in the first inning before adding seven more in the second to put the game out of reach.

Rayville finished with 10 hits and showed patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks while striking out just three times.

Thai Coward led the offense, going 1-for-1 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Dakota Broussard added a 1-for-3 performance with an RBI and a run scored, while David Elzey went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Avery Verbois contributed a hit, scored twice and drove in a run, and Angus Digivanni added two hits and two runs scored. Kelvin chipped in with a hit and a run, while Jace Clark went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

James Garland also added a hit, and Terriun Logan scored twice as Rayville continued to produce throughout the lineup.

The Hornets showed extra-base ability with doubles from Coward and Elzey, and remained aggressive on the bases. Broussard and Clark each recorded stolen bases, while Logan, Coward, Verbois, Elzey, Kelvin, Digivanni and Garland also contributed steals.

On the mound, Elzey earned the win, pitching two innings while allowing one run on one hit. He struck out six and walked one.

Rayville’s defense was solid behind him, committing just one error.

With the win, the Hornets showcased a complete performance, combining explosive offense, aggressive baserunning and effective pitching to secure the victory.
