Mangham, Delhi, Rayville compete at MJHS meet

Area junior high athletes from Mangham, Delhi and Rayville turned in strong performances April 7 at the Mangham Junior High Invitational, with Mangham leading the way with multiple event wins and a runnerup finish in the boys team standings.

Mangham

Mangham’s boys finished second overall as a team, powered by dominant relay performances and strong showings across the track.

The Dragons swept all three relays, winning the 4x100-meter relay (47.01), the 4x200meter relay (1:37.47) and the 4x400-meter relay (3:47.18).

Individually, Malik Paige captured first place in the 200-meter dash (24.32), while Austin Thomas won the 400meter dash (56.79). Trenton Gix added a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash (12.15).

In the hurdles, Amarie Joseph placed fourth in both the 110-meter hurdles (16.09) and 300-meter hurdles (47.88).

Mangham also showed strength in distance events, with David Wiggers placing third in the 1600-meter run (5:50.01) and Elijah Kennedy finishing fifth in the 800-meter run (2:33.67).

In field events, Michael Arroyo led the way with a second-place finish in the shot put (38-07.50), while Logan Dean placed fifth (35-11.00). Arroyo also placed fifth in the discus (80-00.00) and fourth in the javelin (107-09.00), with Dean adding sixth-place finishes in both the discus (78-02.00) and javelin (101-00.00).

Joseph added a first-place finish in the high jump (5-02.00), while Chris Kennedy placed fourth (4-04.00). Arroyo also placed fifth in the long jump (16-08.00).

Mangham’s girls team finished third overall, highlighted by a relay victory in the 4x200meter relay (1:55.94) and a runner-up finish in the 4x100-meter relay (56.04).

Kendall Abrams placed fourth in the 400meter dash (1:11.25), with Lorena Castillo close behind in fifth (1:11.29). Mariah Holland added a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (30.50).

In distance events, Amelia Brunson placed fourth in the 1600-meter run (7:02.60).

Mangham also performed well in the field, with Kennedy Dora placing sixth in the discus (48-02.00), while Xyla Clemons captured first place in the high jump (4-04.00).

Delhi

Delhi’s boys team gained valuable points across several events.

KJ Deiavontae Williams placed fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.29), and the 4x200meter relay team finished sixth (1:48.41). The 4x100-meter relay team also placed sixth (50.82).

In field events, Noah Loyd led the way with a sixth-place finish in the discus (85-10.00) and also placed sixth in the javelin (76-11.00).

For the girls, Mahogony Cleveland placed third in the triple jump (30-03.50), while La’Kendra Fletcher added a second-place finish in the shot put (29-06.00). De’Miracle Johnson placed fifth in the discus (61-09.00).

In the high jump, Mellane Butler placed fifth (4-04.00), while Chadsity Jones finished sixth (4-02.00). Delhi also turned in solid relay efforts, placing fourth in both the 4x200-meter relay (1:53.81) and 4x100meter relay (53.26), along with a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (5:45.41).

Rayville

Rayville athletes contributed in several events throughout the meet.

On the boys side, Ari Hill placed second in the 800-meter run (2:25.04), while DJ Samuel competed in both the 1600-meter (6:48.97) and 800-meter runs.

In the hurdles, Jadarius Murphy competed in the 300-meter hurdles, while the Hornets also had entries in sprint and field events.

For the girls, Rayville’s relay teams were competitive, finishing third in the 4x200-meter relay (2:00.71), fifth in the 4x100-meter relay (57.10) and third in the 4x400-meter relay (4:47.80).

Individually, Zyrhia Robinson placed second in the 400-meter dash (1:10.00) and tied for second in the high jump (4-04.00). Kiylah Wilson added a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run (3:04.00), while Irianna Kelly placed fifth in the discus (52-08.00) and competed in the triple jump.
