Jimmy Wilson was inducted into the Delta State University Athletic Hall of Fame on March 20, a testament to a life dedicated not only to athletic excellence but also to leadership and service.
This prestigious honor is reserved for alumni who exemplify professional achievement and significant community impact, qualities Jimmy Wilson has demonstrated throughout his journey. His remarkable career, both on and off the field, continues to bring honor and distinction to Delta State University.
From humble beginnings in Mangham, born to the late Emmitt and Lizzie Davis, Jimmy’s journey through the Mangham School District has always been guided by values of discipline, perseverance and heart.
Those values carried him from the football field at Mangham High School to the field at Delta State University, where he made history as a middle linebacker and etched his name permanently into the record books.
During his outstanding collegiate career as a middle linebacker from 1986 to 1990, Jimmy established himself as one of Delta State football’s most dominant defensive forces. He set the single-season tackle record with 151 tackles in 1989, a mark that still stands more than 30 years later, and ranks second all-time in overall tackles, a reflection of his unwavering dedication and consistency. His accomplishments earned him national recognition, including being named Gazette National Player of the Week and earning selection as a two-time Gulf South All-Conference player in 1989 and 1990. On the field, Jimmy’s intelligence and discipline made him the cornerstone of the Statesmen defense, earning the respect of coaches and teammates alike.
Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Jimmy’s leadership continues to shape Delta State University long after his playing days concluded. As president of the Delta State Few, a group supporting the football program, he led the expansion of the organization’s meal program to include mentorship sessions for current student- athletes. A former player once remarked, “Coach Wilson didn’t just feed us after games. He made time to listen and offer guidance, helping us see ourselves as leaders on and off the field.” Under his guidance, the Delta State Few not only provided postgame meals for coaches, trainers and players but also fostered a culture of unity, care and tradition, strengthening the Statesmen family in meaningful ways.
Jimmy’s commitment to service extends well beyond the university. Through his leadership at the Wilson Family Caring Center, he works tirelessly to improve the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or autism, offering compassionate support to families in need. The center’s daily outreach creates stability, dignity and opportunity, reflecting Jimmy’s belief in lifting others through action. In addition, furthering his commitment to education, Jimmy established and awarded two academic scholarships to incoming Delta State freshmen in 2025, investing directly in the next generation of student success.
In parallel with his community initiatives, Jimmy and his wife, Tjwana, are owners of QDA Homes, a real estate investment group; partners in WGW Entertainment, LLC, where they serve as executive producers for the acclaimed film “Jacob Broken by God”; and investors in the nationally aired series “America’s Real Deal.” Their business ventures reflect a shared commitment to storytelling, empowerment and positive change, values that echo through Jimmy’s personal and professional life.
Jimmy attended Delta State University from 1986 to 1991, majoring in management, and he remains an active community advocate. He serves as a board member of The Wilson Family Empowerment Foundation and the Melanie Dartest Sickle Cell Foundation. Jimmy and Tjwana, his wife of 33 years and a fellow Delta State graduate, reside in Waller, Texas. Their family includes three adult children, Damian, Qunesha and Ambur; daughter-in-law Latoya; and four beloved grandchildren, Javion, Jimiyah, Kameren and Aiden.
In summary, Jimmy Wilson’s story is one of excellence, leadership and service.
Each chapter, from breaking records on the field to mentoring student-athletes to uplifting his community, reveals a legacy rooted in Statesmen pride, integrity and impact.
His accomplishments continue to inspire future generations, ensuring that the spirit and purpose of the Hall of Fame endure through his example.
