Gators defeat Downsville during five-game stretch

Delhi Charter battled through a demanding five-game stretch from March 30 through April 4, facing a pair of strong opponents in West Ouachita and Ouachita Christian, along with Oak Grove and Downsville.

The Gators went 1-4 over that span, but Delhi Charter’s 19-hit breakout against Downsville on April 2 provided a bright spot in an otherwise difficult week.

Delhi Charter opened the stretch March 30 with an 11-3 loss to West Ouachita. The Gators showed flashes early, scoring once in the first inning and adding two more later, but West Ouachita pulled away with a big middle stretch, including a four-run fourth inning.

Kade Brown led Delhi Charter at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Peyton Fuller added a hit and drove in a run, while Will Brown delivered a two-hit performance and finished with two RBIs. Ian Till and John Jarmal also contributed hits for the Gators, who finished with six hits as a team.

Will Brown started on the mound and worked into the fifth inning, allowing eight hits and seven runs while striking out three. Sullivan Jeffers came on in relief and pitched 1.2 innings.

On March 31, Oak Grove handed Delhi Charter a 16-1 loss. The Gators scored their lone run in the first inning, but Oak Grove answered quickly with 12 runs in the opening inning and added four more in the third to end the game after three innings.

Delhi Charter was limited to four hits in the contest. Peyton Fuller led the way offensively, going 1-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base. Kade Brown added a hit, while Brandon Velazquez and Brooks Jarmal also recorded hits for Delhi Charter.

The Gators were aggressive on the bases, collecting three stolen bases. Fuller had two, and Ian Till added one. Peyton Fuller started on the mound for Delhi Charter, while Sullivan Jeffers and Jason Richmond also saw time in relief.

Delhi Charter was blanked 17-0 by Ouachita Christian on April 1. Ouachita Christian scored five runs in the first inning and added 12 more over the next three frames to end the game after four innings.

Ian Till accounted for Delhi Charter’s lone hit, finishing 1-for-2 with a triple. The Gators also worked a pair of walks but could not string together enough offense.

Kade Brown got the start on the mound for Delhi Charter. Brandon Velazquez, Jason Richmond and Kalvin Hardy also pitched in relief for the Gators.

The Gators answered with their strongest offensive showing of the week on April 2, pounding out 19 hits in a 19-9 win over Downsville.

Delhi Charter scored in five of its six at-bats, including a four-run fifth and a six-run sixth to put the game away.

Peyton Fuller had a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Ian Till added a 2-for-4 effort with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, while Will Brown finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Sullivan Jeffers also delivered a strong game, going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Benton Welch doubled and drove in two runs, and Kade Brown added a 2-for-3 performance with two RBIs and two runs scored.

John Jarmal had a hit and an RBI, and Delhi Charter got production throughout the lineup as several Gators crossed the plate multiple times. The Gators finished with 14 RBIs, 11 walks and a flood of timely hits.

Will Brown started on the mound and struck out seven over 2.1 innings. Ian Till worked 3.2 innings in relief and added five strikeouts. Jason Richmond also pitched for Delhi Charter.

Delhi Charter closed the stretch April 4 with a 10-0 loss to Ouachita Christian.

Ouachita Christian built an early lead with three runs in the first inning and kept the Gators off balance throughout the five-inning contest.

Kade Brown recorded the lone hit for Delhi Charter with a triple. Peyton Fuller started on the mound and worked 2.2 innings, while Kade Brown pitched in relief.

Though the week brought its share of tough results, Delhi Charter showed offensive potential in its win over Downsville and continued to get contributions from multiple players throughout the lineup.
