Athletes from Mangham Junior High and Delhi Charter turned in several strong performances during the Franklin Parish Junior High Meet held March 31 at Franklin Parish High School.
Mangham girls
Amelia Brunson won the girls 1600-meter run in 7:26.68 and later placed second in the 800-meter run in 3:15.66.
Mangham’s girls relay teams also had a big day. The Lady Dragons finished second in the 4x200meter relay in 1:57.46 with Trinity Gix, Mariah Holland, Kendall Abrams and Xyla Clemons. Mangham also won the 4x100-meter relay in 54.74 with Erica Dotson, Trinity Gix, Mariah Holland and Kendall Abrams, and placed second in the 4x400-meter relay in 5:05.09 with Trinity Gix, Kendall Abrams, Lorena Castillo and Amelia Brunson.
Individually, Trinity Gix placed fourth in the 100-meter dash in 14.21, Kendall Abrams was third in the 400-meter dash in 1:11.19, Lorena Castillo was fourth in the 400meter dash in 1:11.86, and Mariah Holland finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 31.22.
In the field events, Xyla Clemons was fourth in the long jump at 13-6 and tied for second in the high jump at 4-4. Kennedy Dora placed second in the shot put at 27-2.5.
Delhi Charter girls
Delhi Charter picked up several top finishes in the girls division.
Roseabella Furello placed fifth in the 1600-meter run in 9:30.30. Delhi Charter’s girls relay team of Xyniyah Thomas, Kiya Shoulders, Alayah McDowell and Addison Hicks finished sixth in the 4x200-meter relay in 2:07.57. The Lady Gators also placed sixth in the 4x100-meter relay in 59.14 with Raileigh Hughes, Xyniyah Thomas, Alayah McDowell and Kendal Alexander.
Alayah McDowell finished third in the long jump at 13-8. In the throws, Jacey Cleveland placed third in the shot put at 26-4, Malaysia Cooper was fourth at 25-10, and Londyn Butler was fifth at 25-3.
Marielle Wright placed second in the discus at 55-3.5. Delhi Charter also had a strong showing in the javelin, where Carolyn Hall finished second at 61-0, Kassidy Percy was third at 53-9, and Ryleigh Hughes placed sixth at 45-4. Kendal Alexander added a third-place finish in the high jump at 4-2 .
Delhi Charter boys
Delhi Charter athletes also had several strong finishes in the boys divisions.
In the 6th-7th grade boys division, Delhi Charter placed second in the 4x200-meter relay in 1:50.33 with Benjamin Green, Lamarr Briggs, Princeton White and Jordan Washington, and fourth in the 4x100-meter relay in 53.54 with the same quartet.
Individually, Jay Ramshur placed fifth in the 800-meter run in 3:11.83, Jalen Robinson finished third in the 400-meter dash in 1:09.17, and Larry Morrison placed second in the 200-meter dash in 26.77. Lamarr Briggs added a third-place finish in the long jump at 15-7. Benjamin Green won the shot put at 30-1, and Trenton Davis was second in the discus at 45-11.
In the 8th grade boys division, Jordan Washington placed fifth in the triple jump at 32-8.
Mangham boys
Mangham’s boys had an outstanding day, especially in the 8th grade division, where the Dragons won the team title with 130 points.
David Wiggers won the 8th grade boys 1600-meter run in 5:53.22, and Phillip Blanchard was fourth in 6:13.27. Amarie Joseph placed fourth in the 100meter hurdles in 17.41 and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.03, while also tying for third in the high jump at 5-2.
Mangham won the 8th grade boys 4x200-meter relay in 1:37.99 with Trenton Gix, Malik Paige, Aiden Marsh and Austin Thomas. The Dragons also won the 4x100-meter relay in 47.33 and the 4x400meter relay in 3:57.91 with the same group.
Austin Thomas won the 400-meter dash in 56.23, while Aiden Marsh was sixth in 59.94. Malik Paige won the 200-meter dash in 24.37, and Jaykob Miley was fourth in 24.88. Elijah Kennedy placed third in the 800-meter run in 2:35.53.
In the field events, Michael Arroyo won the shot put at 40-8, placed fifth in the discus at 76-9.5, and won the javelin at 122-4. Logan Dean placed fourth in the shot put at 37-9, second in the discus at 88-4, and third in the javelin at 86-2.
Tommy Benjamin finished sixth in the triple jump at 27-11.
