Hornets drop pair to Georgetown

Rayville battled through a tough two-game stretch last week, dropping both contests against Georgetown despite flashes of offense and several solid individual performances.

The Hornets fell 25-8 on March 31 and 16-2 on April 2.

In the March 31 matchup, Rayville collected eight hits and scored in three different innings, but Georgetown used a 12-run sixth inning to pull away.

Thai Coward led the way for Rayville, going 1-for-4 with a home run, a run scored and four RBIs.

Kelvin also had a strong day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Terriun Logan added a hit and drove in two runs, while Jayden Brown scored twice and stole a base. Dakota Broussard, Angus Digiovanni and James Garland each contributed hits, and Zavion Mackey scored a run.

Rayville showed aggressiveness on the bases, collecting five stolen bases in the contest. Angus Digiovanni had two steals, while Jayden Brown, Terriun Logan and Zavion Mackey each had one.

Avery Verbois started on the mound for the Hornets and worked five innings, while Thai Coward pitched in relief.

The Hornets were limited to four hits in the April 2 rematch, falling 16-2.

Dakota Broussard led the way offensively, going 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Thai Coward added a 1-for-2 effort with a double and a run scored, while James Garland also recorded a hit and scored a run.

Rayville’s other offensive production came from baserunning and pressure on the defense. Dakota Broussard had two stolen bases, while James Garland and Thai Coward each added one.

Dakota Broussard and Thai Coward both pitched for the Hornets in the second game.

Even in the losses, Rayville got contributions from several players across the lineup and continued to show aggressiveness on the basepaths throughout the week.
