Mangham put together a powerful offensive showing, defeating Delhi Charter 17-5 in a district softball contest on March 26.
Both teams had success at the plate, combining for 33 hits, but Mangham’s 24-hit attack proved too much to overcome.
Delhi Charter collected nine hits in the loss and got production throughout the lineup. Marlee Bonner led the Lady Gators with a home run and two RBIs while finishing with two hits and a run scored. Jasey Calhoun also had a strong game, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Olivia Clark added two hits for Delhi Charter, while Alli Henson, Destiny Griffin, Taylor Mitchell and Dani Mize each recorded a hit. Griffin, Kaylee Osborn and Mitchell each drove in a run for the Lady Gators. Henson and Osborn also reached after being hit by pitches.
Mangham answered with a relentless offensive effort from top to bottom. Micaela Turner paced the Lady Dragons, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Ella Dickens also went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Kennedy McMurray finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Abbigail Hardie and Shelbie Pruitt each added three hits for Mangham, and Marra Beth Hutson helped her own cause with two hits, including a home run, while driving in two runs. A. Glass also had two hits and two RBIs, and Madeline Wiggins and E. Barton chipped in with hits and run production as Mangham scored in five of its six innings.
Hutson earned the win in the circle for Mangham, striking out seven over six innings. Alli Henson pitched the full game for Delhi Charter.
Delhi Charter showed fight offensively and continued to string together quality at-bats, but Mangham’s steady run production and extrabase power created too much separation.
The game highlighted offensive bright spots for both clubs as district play continued.
