Mangham goes 0-3 in tough stretch

Mangham showed flashes of offensive production but came up short in a three-game stretch March 23-28, falling to Vidalia and twice to Ouachita Christian.

The Dragons opened with an 11-5 loss to Vidalia on March 23, followed by a 12-8 setback to Ouachita Christian on March 26 and a 9-0 loss in a rematch on March 28.

Across the three games, Mangham continued to get contributions throughout the lineup while facing strong pitching and consistent opposing offenses.

In the loss to Vidalia, Mangham collected six hits and stayed within striking distance early before the game slipped away late. Colby Casey led the way, going 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Cade Poland added a triple, finishing 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Evan Barton contributed a hit, a run scored and an RBI, while Carson Mooney added a hit and an RBI. Aiden Twiner recorded two hits and scored once, and Brody Hutson also crossed the plate. Mangham stayed active on the bases with stolen bases from Mooney, Barton and Casey.

On the mound in that game, Barton worked four innings and struck out six, while Mooney added three innings of relief with six strikeouts.

Mangham followed with one of its stronger offensive performances of the stretch in a 12-8 loss to Ouachita Christian on March 26. The Dragons jumped out early, scoring four runs in the first inning and three more in the second.

Poland led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Mooney finished 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Casey added two hits and an RBI.

Barton went 2-for-4 and scored twice, and Blake Pierce contributed a hit, two RBIs and a run scored. Hutson also drove in a run as Mangham finished with 10 hits.

Pierce worked six innings on the mound and struck out four, while Casey came on in relief.

Ouachita Christian answered with steady offense to rally and pull away late.

In the March 28 rematch, Mangham collected seven hits but was held scoreless in a 9-0 loss.

Mooney led the Dragons at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double. Reggie Roberson, Barton, Poland, Pierce and Hutson each added hits.

Mooney also handled the pitching duties, working all six innings and striking out five.

Despite putting runners on base, Mangham was unable to come up with timely hits, while Ouachita Christian used a four-run first inning and a five-run fifth to secure the win.

Over the three-game stretch, several Dragons produced consistently. Poland and Mooney led multiple offensive efforts, while Casey and Barton contributed across all phases. Pierce and Hutson added key RBIs, and Twiner and Roberson helped round out the lineup production.

Though the results didn’t fall Mangham’s way, the Dragons showed the ability to generate offense and compete against strong opponents as they continue through district play.
