Families in Richland Parish now have access to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a nationally recognized early-literacy program that provides free books to young children each month.
The program is open to all children under age five living in Richland Parish. Each enrolled child receives a high-quality, age-appropriate book mailed directly to their home every month from birth until their fifth birthday at no cost to families.
Books are selected by early childhood literacy experts and addressed personally to each child, helping build excitement around reading while encouraging families to spend time reading together.
Dolly Parton launched the Imagination Library in 1995 with the goal of inspiring a love of reading and ensuring that every child, regardless of family income, has access to books at home. Today the program distributes millions of books each month to children across the United States and several other countries.
There are no income requirements to participate in the program. All children under the age of five who live in Richland Parish are eligible.
Parents and guardians can register their children online at imaginationlibrary.com/usa/affiliate/LARICHLAND/ After registering, families should allow six to eight weeks for the first book to arrive.
Books will then be delivered monthly until the month of the child’s fifth birthday.
For more information or assistance with registration, families may contact Richland Parish School Board Early Childhood Coordinator Chessa Harrington by email at [email protected] or by calling 318-728-5964, extension 249.
