Multi-agency operation leads to drug arrests

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office, working with Louisiana State Police Troop F, LSP Metro Narcotics/MFO and the DEA Monroe, executed a coordinated narcotics investigation targeting the illegal distribution of controlled dangerous substances in Richland Parish.

The operation resulted in multiple search and arrest warrants and the seizure of illegal narcotics, firearms and suspected drug proceeds.

Investigators seized approximately 22 ounces of methamphetamine, about 2,570 dosage units of MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, 230 grams of marijuana, 86 grams of synthetic marijuana, two handguns and $3,263 in suspected drug proceeds.

Three individuals were taken into custody.

During the arrest of Robert Kelly, Kelly attempted to flee while being transported by troopers. Authorities said Kelly ran into the side of a passing commercial motor vehicle during the brief foot pursuit. An ambulance transported Kelly to Richardson Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries before being booked.

Kelly was charged with distribution of Schedule II methamphetamine, conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and simple escape.

Tyrone Johnson was charged with four counts of distribution of Schedule II methamphetamine, one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, one count of possession of Schedule III Suboxone with intent to distribute, one count of money proceeds involving controlled dangerous substance transactions totaling $4,411, one count of possession of legend drug sildenafil, one count of possession of legend drug buspirone hydrochloride, two counts of possession of Schedule II amphetamine with intent to distribute, one count of possession of Schedule I MDMA with intent to distribute, one count of possession of Schedule I marijuana with intent to distribute and one count of possession of Schedule I synthetic marijuana with intent to distribute.

Robert Griffin was charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

All subjects were booked into custody. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing as part of a continued effort among local, state and federal agencies to combat narcotics trafficking.

“We will continue working aggressively with our law enforcement partners to identify and hold accountable those who distribute illegal narcotics in our communities,” Sheriff Neal Harwell said. “Drug trafficking will not be tolerated in Richland Parish.”

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to protecting Richland Parish residents and keeping communities safe.
