A special tribute honoring the late Richland Parish Sheriff Gary Gilley was held during the awards banquet of the 86th Annual Northeast District Livestock Show in Delhi.

This year’s livestock show was dedicated to Gilley’s memory in recognition of his lifelong commitment to the people of Richland Parish, particularly its youth and agricultural community. The tribute took place during the banquet portion of the annual event, which brings together families, exhibitors and supporters from across Northeast Louisiana.

Richland Parish Sheriff Neal Harwell addressed the audience, sharing reflections on Gilley’s character, leadership and the lasting impact of his service. Harwell spoke of Gilley’s dedication to public service and his strong support of programs that encouraged responsibility, hard work and opportunity for young people involved in 4-H and FFA.

As part of the ceremony, Harwell presented a commemorative plaque to members of Gilley’s family.

Accepting the plaque were Gilley’s granddaughters, Kalynn Fleming and Kaylie Gill, along with his mother, Ida Gilley. The plaque honored Gilley’s legacy of service, integrity and devotion to the parish he served.

The moment was described as both meaningful and emotional, marking a pause in the evening to remember a leader whose influence extended beyond law enforcement and into the fabric of the local agricultural community.

The Northeast District Livestock Show continues to celebrate the efforts and achievements of 4-H and FFA youth throughout the region, while this year’s dedication served as a reminder of the community leaders who have supported those programs and helped shape future generations.
