An election originally scheduled for April 18 in Richland Parish, along with its qualifying period, has been postponed.
According to election officials, the April 18 election has been rescheduled for May 16. As a result, the candidate qualifying period originally set for Jan. 14–16 has also been postponed and will now take place Feb. 11-13.
The change was made to allow time for the Louisiana Supreme Court to rule on an appeal related to its decision redrawing Louisiana’s congressional maps.
Several local, state and federal races are affected by the postponement. Offices scheduled to appear on the ballot include U.S. senator, U.S. representative for District 5, Public Service Commission District 5, Rayville mayor, Rayville chief of police, Rayville aldermen and Police Jury District 3.
Proposed constitutional amendments will also appear on the ballot.
Election officials said additional information will be released as needed as the new qualifying and election dates approach.
Richland Parish Registrar of Voters Carol Morgan encourages all voters to verify their voter information, address and party affiliation before the election dates.
They may do this by calling her office at 318-728-3582 or on the Geaux Vote app.
