Rayville Junior High School celebrated the Christmas season Dec. 17 with a full day of performances and student-led activities that brought holiday spirit to campus while highlighting academic engagement and community involvement.
The celebration opened with the school’s annual Christmas program, which featured a variety of songs, poems, holiday dances and two Christmas-themed drama skits performed by students. A special guest appearance was made by Sgt. Andre McMahon, a popular singer who performs with RTN Lavelle of Y.M.O.S. and attends Grambling State University.
The program was coordinated by LaBrittany Alexander and Anteenee Thomas, who were credited for ensuring the event’s success.
Later in the day, the RJHS Student Council hosted its holiday-themed event, “Santa Hornets Celebrating Christmas Near the North Pole.” The activity was part of the school’s ongoing student and family academic engagement initiative, designed to encourage collaboration between students, families and educators while reinforcing learning across subject areas.
Students and parents participated in a variety of themed academic stations, including reading activities where “elves” shared Christmas stories, math challenges focused on holiday-themed problem solving, English language arts sentence scrambles, social studies geography matching activities and science-based quiz bowl games. Additional enrichment activities included academic bingo.
Seventh-grade student Zachery Buie served as Santa Claus during the event, greeting participants and helping distribute holiday treats.
Student Council members assisting with the event included President Irianna Kelley, Vice President Hayden Henderson, Secretary Ma’Kenzie Potts, Treasurer Antionna Cowart and Historian Jasear Cook. Sixth-grade representatives included Rayleigh Wilson and Brittish Scheanette; seventh-grade representatives were Cash Miller and Zachery Buie; and eighth-grade representatives included Nicholas Raven, Jasmine Gee, Au’Brianna Wilson and Ah’Miya Jackson. Student Council Advisor Torrie Britton, the school’s reading and library teacher, also assisted with the event.
School officials extended thanks to Principal Amanda Stein, Assistant Principal Andrea Bailey, participating teachers, parents and members of the Rayville community for supporting the holiday activities.
