Brown bags first buck

Brown bags first buck
Seven-year-old Max Brown of Rayville shows off his first buck.

Seven-year-old Max Brown of Rayville celebrated a milestone this week when he harvested his first deer, a hefty eightpoint buck weighing about 250 pounds.

The hunt took place on the family’s land in Rayville, with Max joined by his mother, Rebekah Brown.

The evening carried special meaning for the Brown family.

Max used the same .243 rifle his grandfather once gave to his mother when she began hunting. Rebekah took her first deer with that rifle at age six, and now Max has added his own chapter to the family tradition.

After his successful shot, Max told his mother he believed his Papaw Arnold had sent him that deer, a sentiment that made the moment even more memorable.

Max is the son of Jesse and Rebekah Brown. With younger brother Cooper eager for his turn, the family looks forward to many more hunts together and to carrying on a tradition that spans generations.
