Two suspected of abuse in Start

Two Richland Parish residents have been arrested on charges stemming from the alleged abuse of a juvenile.

Richland Parish Sheriff Gary Gilley said Caleb Clements, 24, was arrested March 28 and charged with rape and pornography involving juveniles.

 This arrest came after Clements was found living with an underage female not related to him in the Start area. 

Investigation revealed the mother, Lisa Rogers, had left the minor child in the care of Clements while she visited family in Alabama. 

Vagrant arrested for child porn

A transient has been arrested on charges of vagrancy and child pornography in Richland Parish.

Richland Parish Sheriff Gary Gilley said his department received a call from the Richland Parish Library April 26 reporting that a transient  subject had visited the Delhi and Rayville branches of the library and accessed the Internet.  A routine check revealed this person had visited child porn sites on the computer while in the library.  

Suspect arrested on rape charge

An incident with his ex-girlfriend has left a man in jail in Richland Parish.

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Lavell Toussaint, 31, April 26 on charges of second degree rape, false imprisonment, domestic abuse battery and theft. 

These charges stemmed from an incident involving Toussaint and an ex-girlfriend which occurred April 21 in Rayville.  

The victim was treated at an area hospital and released. 

Toussaint also had outstanding warrants in Ouachita Parish for second degree battery.

Lady Dragons earn state 2A championship

The Mangham Lady Dragons edged out Kinder 9-8 in the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday to become the new Class 2A Louisiana softball champions.
The Lady Dragons entered the final inning trailing 8-6. Cam Neathery then drove in two runs to tie the game up at 8-8 before Grace Underwood’s walk-off single gave Mangham the state title.
Neathery earned the Most Outstanding Player honor with two doubles and a single in the match.
Underwood had three singles and three RBIs and Kelsey Wyatt had three runs along with a single and an RBI.

Local jobless rate falls

The Richland Parish unemployment rate fell almost 2 percent in March according to the latest figures from the Louisiana Works Commission.

Richland’s March unemployment rate was 5.4 percent, down from 6.1 in February and 6.3 in March 2018.

That translates into 442 people looking for work in the parish in March, down from 502 in February and 523 a year ago.

Currently there are 7,773 people employed in Richland Parish, up from 7,700 in February and 7,726 last March.
