Qualifying ends for October elections

Qualifying for the Oct. 14 elections ended Aug. 10 with several local candidates running unopposed.

Incumbent Sheriff Gary Gilley was elected unopposed as were Assessor Lee Brown and Coroner Matt Prine.

In police jury races, Steven “Doug” Craig ran unopposed in District 1 as did Roy Wiggins Jr. in District 9.

At the state level Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Republican Michael G. “Mike” Strain of Covington was the only official to run unopposed.

Republican Glen D. Womack of Harrisonburg also ran unopposed for state senator in the 32nd Senatorial District.

In the race for Clerk of Court, two elections will be held, one for the unexpired term and one for the new term. In both races Melissa Cumpton Morris of Rayville will face Christina Pippins of Rayville.

Qualifying for Police Juror District 2 are Zack McDowell of Delhi, Police Juror District 2 Billy Joe Powell of Delhi, Patrick Stubblefield of Delhi and Byron Thomas of Delhi.

Qualifying for Police Juror District 3 are Barbara Carroll of Rayville, John Gee of Rayville,  Sharon D. Kelley-Gee of Rayville and Dale Martin of Rayville.

Qualifying for Police Juror District 4 are Steve Adcock of Rayville and Steve Lofton of Rayville.

Qualifying for Police Juror District 5 are Heather D. Copeland of Rayville, Jesse Lively Jr. of Rayville and Freddie’ Nichols of Rayville.

Qualifying for Police Juror District 6 are Demetria Booker of Rayville, Johnny “Renael” Jones of Rayville, Clifton “Ricky” Lewis of Rayville and Althan Smith of Rayville.

Qualifying for Police Juror District 7 are Dee Hutson of Rayville, Cecil Reddick of Rayville and Clay Russell of Mangham.

Qualifying for Police Juror District 8 are Colton Brown of Oak Ridge, Elliot Colvin of Rayville and Eric Whitten of Oak Ridge.

Qualifying for state senator 34th Senatorial District are Democrat Katrina Jackson of Monroe and Republican James “Joeboy” Smith of Rayville.

Qualifying for state representative 19th Representative District are Independent Norm Davos of Epps and Republican Francis Thompson of Delhi.

Qualifying for governor are Independent Benjamin Barnes of Angola, Republican Patrick Henry “Dat” Barthel of St. Rose, Democrat Daniel M. “Danny” Cole of Trout, Democrat Oscar “Omar” Dantzler Jr. of Hammond, Republican Xavier Ellis of Opelousas,  Keitron Gagnon of Metairie, Republican Sharon W. Hewitt of Baton Rouge, Independent Jeffery Istre of Kaplan, Republican Xan John of Lafayette, Republican Jeff Landry of Broussard, Independent Hunter Lundy of Lake Charles, Republican Richard Nelson of Mandeville, Republican John Schroder of Baton Rouge, Independent Frank Scurlock of Metairie, Republican Stephen “Wags” Waguespack of Abbeville and Democrat Shawn D. Wilson of Baton Rouge.

Qualifying for lieutenant governor Republican Elbert “Pawpaw” Guillory of Opelousas, Republican Tami Hotard of Madisonville, Democrat Willie Jones of New Orleans, Republican William “Billy” Nungesser of Metairie, Independent Bruce Payton of Bush,  Chester Pritchett of Roseland and  Gary Rispone of Greenwell Springs.

Qualifying for secretary of state Democrat Gwen Collins-Greenup of Baton Rouge, Republican Mike” Francis of Crowley, Other Amanda “Smith” Jennings of West Monroe, Republican Thomas J. Kennedy III of New Orleans, Republican Nancy Landry of Baton Rouge, Democrat Arthur A. Morrell of New Orleans, Republican Clay Schexnayder of Sorrento and Republican Brandon Trosclair of Gonzales.

Qualifying for attorney general Democrat Lindsey Cheek of New Orleans, Republican Marty” Maley of Baton Rouge, Republican Liz Baker Murrill of Baton Rouge, Republican John Stefanski of Crowley and Democrat Perry Walker Terrebonne of New Orleans.

Qualifying for treasurer are Republican John Fleming of Minden, Democrat Dustin Granger of Lake Charles and Republican Scott McKnight of Baton Rouge.

Qualifying for commissioner of insurance are Republican Tim Temple of Baton Rouge and Democrat R.D. “Rich” Weaver of Prairieville.

Qualifying for BESE District 5 are Republican Toby” Brazzel of Alexandria and Republican Lance Harris of Boyce.
