Delhi secures $1.2 million water grant

The Town of Delhi has been awarded a substantial grant of nearly $1.2 million through the state’s Water Sector Program.

The funding is set to bring much-needed improvements to the town’s water system, with a focus on enhancing the condition of its water storage infrastructure. The approved grant will primarily target the repair and repainting of two elevated water storage tanks located at Hydro Way and Sun Camp Road.

“These tanks play a vital role in ensuring the availability of clean and reliable water to the residents of Delhi,” Mayor Jesse Washington said. “The initiative to revamp these essential structures aligns with the town’s commitment to maintaining a robust and efficient water distribution network.”

This achievement marks the second successful grant application by the Town of Delhi under the Water Sector Program. Earlier this year, the town secured a substantial grant amounting to $4.3 million. These funds were allocated to bolstering the waste water treatment plant and implementing backup generators at major sewer lift stations. The continuous influx of grant funds underscores the town’s dedication to enhancing its water and wastewater infrastructure.

“Remarkably, the total grant funds secured by Delhi within the past year surpass the $6 million mark, showcasing the town’s proactive approach to infrastructure development,” Washington said. “This remarkable success can be attributed to multiple factors, including the town’s willingness to provide matching funds for these projects and a significant contribution from Lamb Weston, a company that has demonstrated its commitment to the community.”

The upcoming water system improvements are poised to significantly benefit the residents of Delhi by ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the town’s water supply infrastructure. As the town continues to invest in its essential utilities, it solidifies its foundation for sustainable growth and an improved quality of life for its residents.
