SNAP benefits change in April

Louisiana recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits will receive their April benefits on a modified schedule, as the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services works to transition families back to the regular distribution schedule that was disrupted by the partial federal government shutdown in January.

The April schedule is as follows:

• Recipients who usually receive their SNAP benefits on the 1st through 9th of each month will receive their benefits for April on their regular issuance date.

BSEE Director Sees Change and Optimism for U.S. Offshore Energy

Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement Director Scott Angelle told attendees of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry Conference, held at the Port of New Orleans Tuesday, that offshore energy is vital to the Trump Administration goal of energy dominance. Angelle emphasized that production must be safe and environmentally sustainable to meet America’s oil and gas demands now and in the future.

BSEE proposes revisions to Well Control Rule

Some recent editorials and news stories have falsely characterized regulatory review efforts currently underway at the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, apparently without having actually read the proposed revisions. One editorial in the Houston Chronicle expressed worries that many, including the U.S. Government and our agency, commonly referred to as BSEE, might have forgotten the lessons of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon tragedy and other offshore incidents. For the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement nothing could be further from the truth.

Taxpayers reminded of extension deadline

Louisiana taxpayers who need more time to file their state individual income taxes must request extensions before the May 15, filing deadline to avoid late-filing penalties.

An extension provides more time to prepare and file a Louisiana individual income tax return. 

It does not grant additional time to pay any taxes due. 

Tax payments received after the return due date are subject to interest and late-payment penalties.

LDWF seeking nominations for Hunter of the Year

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Louisiana Wildlife Federation and the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association are seeking submissions for the 2017 Youth Hunter of the Year contest. The contest, for the 2017 calendar year, is open to Louisiana boys and girls ages 15 and younger.

 Did you have a special hunt this past year? Harvested your first game animal or bird? Maybe just a hunting trip made great by sharing time in the outdoor with family and friends? 

Regardless, you could be a candidate for our male and female Youth Hunter of the Year contest.
