RPSO sets date for Day at the Lake

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office will hosts its annual Day at the Lake from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 10 at Poverty Point State Park in Delhi.

Lunch will be served at 11 a.m., featuring fried fish, French fries and hushpuppies.

The event for Richland Parish senior citizens will feature door prizes, plinko, popcorn, snow cones, live entertainment, boat rides and fishing.

A bus will pick up seniors at 9 a.m. May 10 at the courthouse in Rayville and at 9:30 a.m. at the Delhi Substation in Delhi.

Joint operation leads to pair of drug arrests

Rayville Police Chief Robinson advised a three-month undercover drug operation between his officers and the Delhi Police Department has paid off with two arrests.

Chief Robinson stated that RPD Investigator Jerry Davis Sr., DPD Asst. Chief Jermaine Estes and DPD Narcotic Agent Craig Frazier joined together to investigate drugs.

Chief Robinson advised that they will continue to work drugs and if you are caught, you will be arrested. 

No wake zone announced

Richland Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness Director Dawn Williams announced April 8 that effective immediately the Woolen Lake is under an Emergency No Wake Zone.  

“Due to backwater and watercraft traffic pushing water into homes and camps we felt this is action is necessary,” Williams said. “We are attempting to protect homes and the public’s safety.” 

This no wake zone will be strictly enforced by Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

April activities planned at Poverty Point park

Poverty Point World Heritage Site has scheduled a pair of activities during the upcoming weeks.

Visitors to Poverty Point World Heritage Site are invited to take part in a ranger-led demonstration of crafting prehistoric-styled pottery similar to the pieces which the Native Americans fashioned more than 3,500 years ago.

The event will begin with the demonstration at 10:30 a.m. April 13. Afterward, visitors can try their hand at making their own pottery until noon.
