Bunnitt honored by retired teachers

 The Louisiana Retired Teachers Association presented Ola Bunnitt with the Name of Fame award at its Spring Meeting on April 30. 

The Name of Fame award is presented to an active LRTA member who is involved in the organization.

Bunnitt earned her bachelor’s degree from Grambling State University. Upon graduation, she began teaching in Richland Parish. She taught first grade for 15 years at Eula D. Britton High School. Bunnitt went on to teach first grade, fourth grade and Chapter 1 Reading at Start High School for 16 years.

Counterfeit money seized

Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson and RPD Sgt. Timothy Colvin display $1,246 worth of counterfeit bills seized during a recent arrest in Rayville.

Quick action brings arrest over counterfeit money

Two people were arrested after allegedly attempting to pass counterfeit money in Rayville.

Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson advised that on April 29, his office received a report from a local businesses stating that they had a customer who attempted to pay for gas with counterfeit money. 

Delhi wins state title in Cleanest City contest

The Town of Delhi has been named the Cleanest City in the State by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation.

Delhi won the state honor in Class E for cities with populations of 2,500 to 4,499.

Second place went to.   Pearl River, third to   Garyville and fourth to  Homer.

The LGCF was first among members of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. to sponsor a state wide Cleanest City Contest in 1958.

The aim of the contest is to instill civic pride in the individual citizens and thus, improve the appearance of towns and cities. 

Day at the Lake rescheduled

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office and TRIAD has rescheduled its annual Day at the Lake event to avoid bad weather forecasted for Thursday and Friday.

Originally scheduled for May 10 at Poverty Point Marina State Park in Delhi, the event will now be held on June 28.

Lunch will featuring fried fish, French fries and hushpuppies.

The event for Richland Parish senior citizens will feature door prizes, plinko, popcorn, snow cones, live entertainment, boat rides and fishing. 

It is sponsored by the RPSO and Triad.
