Man arrested for farm theft

A West Monroe man has been arrested for allegedly stealing property from a Richland Parish farm.

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office received a complaint in March from Raines Farms in Archibald about missing property totaling approximately $70,000. 

Deputies initiated an investigation into the missing items and were able to recover the items in Ouachita and Madison Parish.  

RHS graduation ceremonies held

Rayville High School held its commencement ceremony May 16 in the Rayville Arts Center.  

The commencement program opened with the posting of the colors by the Rayville High School JROTC, and the Pledge of Allegiance led by First Sergeant Calvin Sistrunk.  The 95 graduates then marched down the aisle led by Valedictorian Christian Littleton and Salutatorian Corey Belk-Scroggins.

Ketara Baker gave the invocation, thanking God for the people who supported each of the 2019 graduates and asking that He guide them through the next part of their lives’ journey.

RPSO makes drug arrest

The Richland Parish Sheriff Office conducted a traffic stop at 4 a.m. May 11 on LA Hwy 583 (Bee Bayou) for improper lane use. Deputies became suspicious of the driver due to his behavior and were able to obtain consent to search the vehicle. Upon searching the deputies found seven baggies of suspected marijuana, and 10 suspected ecstasy pills. The driver, Antoine Lashay Johnson, 42, of Monroe, was charged with improper lane usage, no insurance, open container, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute ecstasy.

Cleanest City winner

Delhi accepts Cleanest City Award

The Town of Delhi has been named the Cleanest City in the State by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation.

“This is a stepping stone toward improving the town,” Delhi Mayor Jesse Washington said. “This is a big accomplishment which wouldn’t have been possible without the people of Delhi and the town workers cooperating to achieve this.”

Memorial Day event planned at state cemetery

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy will be the guest speaker at this year’s Memorial Day program at 11 a.m. May 27 at the Northeast Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery.

Cemetery director Tim Johnson reminds those wishing to participate that parking is limited due to large crowds and asked people to carpool when possible.

In addition, service organizations wishing to place a memorial wreath during the program should contact Johnson at 318-728-4346.
