Rayville man killed in single-vehicle accident near Delhi

Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash at 5:30 p.m. just west of Delhi on US Hwy 80.      

The initial investigation by state police revealed the crash occurred as a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by 21-year-old Shemar L. Young of Rayville, was traveling westbound on US Hwy 80.  For reasons still under investigation, the Camaro crossed the center line, traveled across the left side of the road and struck a large tree.           

First COVID-19 case confirmed in Richland Parish

A Richland Parish resident had tested postive for the Covid-19.

"Richardson Medical Center has received our first confirmed positive test result for COVID-19," Richardson Medical Center Chief Executive Officer James W. Barrett Jr. announced Sunday. "The patient was advised upon testing earlier in the week to self quarantine and is receiving daily monitoring by their primary care provider."

Garden club donates flag

Eva Dawson, center, presents Cleon Gray and J.J. Clay with a new American flag on behalf of the Delhi Garden Club. The new flag will replace the worn one flown at the McKinney Oil Service station. The service station and its employees participate in the cleanest city program for the town of Delhi by maintaining their landscaping and buildings.

Delhi Garden Club postpones clean up day

The Delhi Garden Club has postponed the clean up day originally scheduled for March 21.

Garden club president Eva Dawson said the new date will be announced as soon as it can be scheduled.

The cleanup day was originally planned in order to prepare for the visit by judges from the Louisiana Garden Club Federation as part of the 2020 Cleanest City Contest.

 However, the LGCF has announced judging will be postponed until late April in light of health concerns arising from the Coronavirus 2019.

FCCS opens free meals site

Family Community Christian School is providing children dependent upon the school system for hot meals with breakfast and lunch while area public schools are closed.

FCCS will provide the free meals from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. for breakfast-only pickups and from 10:30 a.m. to to 12:30 p.m. for breakfast and lunch combination pickups. Meals will be served Monday through Friday. 

Meals should be ordered in advance and picked up at the cafeteria door in the rear of the school. The school is located at 2023 Hwy 15, south of Baskin.
