Rayville plans improved water system

The Town of Rayville has received a $624,700 Louisiana Community Development Block Grant to improve its water treatment facilities.

Rayville Mayor Harry Lewis said the grant will be used to install a new water storage tank as well as improving the town’s aeration and chlorination systems.

“Our current tank is old and below ground,” Lewis said. “By installing this new system, we hope to improve the water quality for the people of Rayville and to address the issue with discoloration of the water.”

RPSO slates hot dog fundraiser in Delhi April 12

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a TRIAD fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 12 in the courtyard off Broadway Street in Delhi.

The fundraiser will feature hotdog plates for $5 each. Each plate will contain two hot dogs (with or without chili), chips, a drink, a cookie and ketchup, mustard, mayo and onions.

Proceeds from the event will be used to help fund this year’s Day at the Lake for seniors hosted by the sheriff’s office and Triad.

Tornado does damage near Mangham

According to the National Weather Service has confirmed at least three tornadoes struck near Wednesday near Richland Parish.

Four people suffered mild injuries when one of these tornadoes flipped a mobile home on Middle Road, Manham. That storm, recorded to have been 400 yards wide with winds up to 100 miles per hour, also damaged barns and sheds in the area before dying out in Franklin parish. Two other tornadoes struck around the same time in nearby parts of Caldwell and Richland parishes, causing tree and minor structure damage but no injuries.

Wheat and oat field day scheduled at research station

LSU AgCenter experts will discuss variety trials and weed, insect and disease management at a wheat and oat field day on April 18 at the Tom H. Scott Research, Extension and Education Center in Winnsboro.

Registration opens at 8:30 a.m., and indoor presentations will begin at 9 a.m. Field tours will follow and run until noon. A sponsored lunch will be provided.

The research center is located off La. Highway 15 south Winnsboro.

Featured indoor presentations will focus on weed control in wheat, cover crop research and insect management.
