Arrest made following burglary investigation

The Rayville Police Department has made an arrest and recovered items stolen during a recent burglary.

Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson Sr. advised the Rayville Police Department received a call from a subject at 5:20 p.m. July 26 advising there had been a burglary on Scott Street. The caller advised the homeowner was her mother and she was out of town. Rayville Police Officer Barbara Carroll went to the residence and met the homeowner’s daughter.

Virtual learning program offers AHEC of a Summer

This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students in Richland Parish experienced their first virtual “AHEC of a Summer” program. 

Students spent 100 percent of their time learning virtually with program educator Kym Trisler. Serenity Fletcher, Victoria Jones, Demyia Kelly, Kolton Kelley, Devin Leggins and Landon Littleton spent two weeks learning about health careers, educational requirements and what it takes to be a healthcare provider. 

Richland unemployment rate drops 1.8 percent

Richland Parish’s unemployment rate dropped almost two percent in June according to figures release by the Louisiana Works Commission.

Richland’s June unemployment rate fell to 9 p.m. from 10.8 percent in May. It is still higher than the 6.8 percent reported in June 2019.

This means 699 people were looking for work in Richland Parish in June, down from 835 in May and up from 572 a year ago.

Currently, 7,087 people are working in the parish, up from 6,886 in May and down from 7,819 a year ago.

National Champions

Congratulations to the 2020 Louisiana Havok 10U World Series Champions. The team traveled to Ocean Springs, Miss., and competed in the USSSA Summer Games bringing the title back to Louisiana.
