Richland jobless rate barely changes in July

Richland Parish’s unemployment rate rose slightly in July according to figures released by the Louisiana Works Commission.

The unemployment rate for Richland Parish rose to 8.9 percent in July, up from 8.8 percent in June and 6.7 percent a year ago.

This means 703 people were out of work in Richland Parish in July, up from 691 in June and 559 a year ago.

Richland Parish had a total workforce of 7,220 in July, up from 7,160 in June and down from 7,733 last year.

Richland Parish cleaning up after Laura passes

Richland Parish took less damage than neighboring parishes from Hurricane Laura, the high winds created by the storms kept emergency workers busy throughout the weekend.

“We suffered extensive damage all over the parish,” RPSO Deputy Neal Harwell said. “Fortunately, no injuries were reported.”

Emergency responders were kept busy dealing with fallen trees which downed power lines and blocked roadways.

Political Announcement

Stella Sorey is running for the office of constable in Ward 2.

I am Stella Sorey, and I am announcing my candidacy for Constable Ward 2 Richland Parish.

My parents are Gordon and Vicki Sorey, my mother is Donna Sorey. I have been raised here in Richland parish and I am asking for your vote and support in the upcoming election.

Election Day is Nov. 3 Early voting will start Oct. 20 and end Oct. 27.
