Hornets continue to roll in AA basketball action

Only a mild surprise when The Welsh Greyhounds (#32) came into town to play the #1 ranked Hornets in Class AA.

That was at the end of the first quarter when the Hornets only led 19-11. Any team that can stay within eight points of the Hornets in a quarter is usually a team to be reckoned with. As I say a mild surprise, in the second quarter the Hornets hit their stride and ran off 41 points while holding the Greyhounds to 8 points to lead 60-19 at half. Then it was over.  Not many teams score in the whole game what the Hornets score in the half.

Early voting to begin

Richland Parish Registrar of Voters Carol Morgan reminds citizens that early voting for the March 20 election will be held March 6-13, excluding Sunday, in the registrar of voters office located in the basement of the Richland Parish Courthouse.

The north side of the courthouse will be the entrance for early voting. The hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Please bring proper identification.

Richland recovering from week-long ice storm

Richland Parish is digging out from the ice storm which froze the parish for almost a week.

“We experienced a very difficult time last week with the highly abnormal winter freeze,” Richland Parish Chamber of Commerce chairman Scott Franklin said. “I know many of you in Richland Parish went a long time without power and/or water, plus many in the agriculture industry experienced damage to property and livestock. With that said, we have been asked to pass along a survey for the state of Louisiana to account for property damage from the storm.”

Horse show winners

Horse show winners named

Richland Parish riders did well in the 4-H youth horse show Jan. 23 at the Northeast Louisiana Livestock Show Barn in Delhi. Among the Richland 4-Hers taking part in the show were, from left, Nola Dickey, high point grand champion in the 13 and under category; Jasper Wiliamson; and Avery Stevenson, reserve grand champion winner. The annual 4-H horse show was a success thanks to the efforts of Jason Holmes and Jim McCann of LSU AgCenter and the parents, volunteers and sponsors.

School board hotline offers homework help

Help with their homework is only a phone call away for Richland Parish students.

Teachers from the Richland Parish school system are staffing the Richland Parish Homework Hotline as of Jan. 25.

The homework hotline provides free assistance with English arts and math assignments to K-12 students and parents.

Students can call the hotline at 318-417-7335 from 5-8 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Once someone calls the hotline, the operator will ask for the child’s name, school and specific grade level. The operator will then ask about the specific assignment.
