Delhi crops forum centers on uncertainty

Trade and price uncertainties best describe the agricultural market outlook on the eve of the highly anticipated release of the U.S. Department of Agriculture World Agriculture Supply and Demand Estimates report, LSU AgCenter economist Michael Deliberto said at the Northeast Louisiana Crops Forum.

Held Feb. 7 at the Delhi Civic Center, the meeting drew about 85 farmers and industry representatives.

Scholarships available to local students

The William and Hannah McClain Foundation has scholarships available for two deserving students of the 2019 graduating class of Rayville High School. 

To be considered for a scholarship the student must meet the following criteria:

• Has maintained at least a 2.8 grade point average for grades 9-12 (enclose a sealed official transcript application).

•  Must be financially disadvantaged.

• Must be accepted as a full-time student in a college/university of his/her choice (please submit a copy of the college/university acceptance letter).

New police dog

Delhi police add new police dog to patrol force

The Delhi Police Department has added a new police dog.

Delhi Police Chief Roy Williams is proud to introduce the newest addition to Delhi Police Department, Staff K-9 Nero. 

Nero is a 18-month-old dual-purpose Belgian Malinois. 

Nero is trained in narcotics, tracking, criminal apprehension and article evidence search. 

Sergeant Craig Frasier completed a 120-hour K-9 handlers course at LAK9 in Maurice and will work with Nero at the DPD.

Chief Williams said he is glad to have Nero on his staff.

Delhi student earns national scholarship

Noah Harper, a sophomore from Delhi in the LSU College of Agriculture majoring in plant and soil systems, is the recipient of a national agricultural scholarship. 

Harper received the National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants’ Foundation for Environmental Agriculture Education Jensen Memorial Scholarship. The $3,000 scholarship is awarded to one student majoring in agriculture. FEAE also awards two $1,500 scholarships.

The scholarship commemorates Richard Jensen, one of the early members of the National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants.
