Meeting slated to discuss urgent needs for workers in Delhi area

The City of Delhi, Hydro Extrusion (formerly Sapa), Lamb Weston, Louisiana Delta Community College and Workforce Development Board 83 (WDB 83) will be reaching out to area residents to make them aware of the grave employment needs of Hydro and Lamb Weston.

“The problem they’re running into is that the people they’re hiring are from outside areas. When they get other employment closer to their home, they quit,” explains Dean Baugh, Director of Workforce and Economic Development. “What we want to do is train the local residents to fill their empty slots.”

Both companies will have representatives present to talk about their companies, skills that are needed and the salaries and benefits they can expect. Even if a person doesn’t have  the skills, Louisiana Delta Community College is bring the training to them and the WDB 83 will share how they can possibly help to finance the needed training.

This informational meeting will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. April 3 at the Delhi Civic Center.

“If a person wants an opportunity, male or female, to break into a career that offers great pay, advancement, and benefits right here in their own community, they should make every effort to attend this meeting,” Baugh said.
