Fall candidates qualify for ballot

Richland Parish voters will choose from a full slate of candidates in the November primary elections.

Mangham’s mayor and police chief were unopposed in their bids for re-election.

As qualifying ended Mangham Mayor Anthony Killian and Police Chief Perry Fleming returned to office unchallenged.

The town will see an election for aldermen in November with seven people vying for the five at-large seats.

Candidates are Cade Bonvillian, Charlotte Boone, Courtney Brunson, Brandy Dannehl, Andrea Ramsey, Lenette Romero and Pamela Vaughn.

Delhi Mayor Jesse Washington will face four challengers in his bid to be re-elected. They are former Delhi Mayor Lynn Lewis, Bob Benson, Linda Rancher and Lennon Whitney Sr.

Delhi Police Chief Roy Williams will face challenges from Johnny Cleveland and George Harrison.

In the race for Delhi alderman, Larry Rancher in District A and Gerald Smith in District C ran unopposed.

In District B, Larry R. Houston will face Carlos Harris and Bernard McDowell.

In District D, the race will be between Nick Burgess, Lois Gray, Donald Morrison and Todd Spinks.

In District E, Ellen Oliver will face Bill McKinney.

In School Board District 1, Billy Calvert will face Linda Jones and Joe May. 

In School Board District 2, William Cleveland and Eugene Young will face off. 

In School Board District 3, the race will be between Sharon Buie Jones and Reed Trisler.

In School Board District 4, James Hough was returned to office unopposed. 

In School Board District 5, Georgia “Peaches” Ineichen returns was returned to office unopposed.

In School Board District 6, the race will be between Marie Lewis and Deanna Hubbard. 

In School Board District 7, Scott McKay ran unopposed.

In School Board District 8, Emily Ogden ran unopposed. 

In School Board District 9, Chris Pruitt ran unopposed. 

Cecil Reddick was unopposed in his bid to be Constable for Justice of the Peace Ward 2.

Danny Ellender of Mer Rouge was unopposed in his bid to become the judge for the Court of Appeal 2nd Circuit, 1st District, Electoral Section 2B.

Candidates qualifying in the race for senator included Beryl Billiot of Kentwood, Democrat Gary Chambers Jr. of Baton Rouge, Republican Devin Lance Graham of Gonzales, Xan John of Lafayette, Republican John Kennedy of Baton Rouge, W. Thomas La Fontaine Olson of New Orleans, Independent Bradley McMorris of Livingston, Democrat MV “Vinny” Mendoza of Ponchatoula, Democrat Luke Mixon of Bunkie, Salvador Rodriguez of Tangipahoa, Libertarian Aaron C. Sigler of Hammond, Democrat Syrita Steib of Metarie and Thomas Wenn of Amite.

Qualifying for the position of U. S. Representative 5th Congressional District were incumbent Republican Julia Letlow of Rayville, Democrat Oscar “Omar” Dantzler of Hammond, Republican Allen Guillory of Lawtell, Democrat Walter Earl Huff of Monroe and Republican Hunter Pullen of West Monroe.

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 8 election is Oct. 11 in person or by mail.

Mail ballots may be requested from the registrar of voters until Nov. 4, and mail ballots must be returned to the registrar by Nov. 7.

Early voting will be held from Oct. 25 through Nov. 1.
