TA track team posts good showing at Centreville

The Tensas Academy track and field team traveled south March 11 to Centreville Academy for their second meet of the year.  

The meet was well attended with 11 schools participating.  Ribbons were awarded to the top three contestants in each event.

Freshman Mia-Claire Gossett turned heads with an impressive win in the junior high triple jump with a personal best of 31’.  Gossett also captured a blue ribbon for winning the JV long jump with a leap of 15’3”.  She also took a fourth place finish in the 200 meter run.

School roundup begins

The Pre-K and kindergarten roundup for Tensas Parish will be begin March 22.

Registration will be held at Tensas Parish Special Services for Pre-K and at the Tensas Parish Media Center for kindergarten. Open enrollment will also be held at Tensas Head Start.

Required documents to enroll are a birth certificate, a Social Security card, current shot record, parent/guardian ID card and proof of income for the Pre-K program.

Healthy Communities seek information on shopping

LSU AgCenter wants to better understands the way rural residents shop for produce.

“We seek to gather information from you to better understand the things that influence your purchasing behavior for vegetables,” Healthy Communities Assistant Extension Agent Joy Kristina Sims said.

To better to this, they have put together a survey for local residents. The purpose of this survey is to gather information to better understand the factors that influence consumer purchasing behavior for vegetables in rural Louisiana communities.

TA Chiefs track team

Chiefs take ribbons in track invitational

The Tensas Academy track and field team showed out March 4 as they completed in the Centreville Academy Invitational Meet.

This was the first meet of the year for the Chiefs. The team recorded six first place finishes, two second places and three third place finishes.

Ribbons were awarded to the top three contestants in each event.

Two killed in one-vehicle crash south of Waterproof

Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash shortly after 7 a.m. March 5 on US Hwy 65 just south of Waterproof. 

This crash claimed the life of both the unrestrained driver and passenger.   

The initial investigation revealed a 2006 Nissan Altima, driven by 29-year-old Anjelica Johnson of Woodville, MS, was traveling south on US Hwy 65 when the vehicle crossed the center line into the northbound lane. The vehicle traveled onto the shoulder and struck a bridge rail which caused it to begin to overturn.
